"For the wages of sin is death," Romans 6:23a
Pray First: Ask God to give you and your family a deep love for the holiness of God and ask Him to make you experience godly grief and big time unhappiness for your own sin.
Who remembers what sin means?
(*sin- =means to "not trust God or do what He says")
Do you remember what we had learned in the last lesson?
-Satan is an enemy to God and you.
-Adam and Eve sinned: because they did not love God most of all.
-Satan is an enemy to God and you.
-Adam and Eve sinned: because they did not love God most of all.
WHY WAS ADAM AND EVE'S SIN SUCH A BIG DEAL?
EXPLORE GENESIS 3:8-23 get your bible and your ruler and pen and underline things that show us the "after" consequences of sin.
I think we (grown ups) owe you kids an apology!
We apologize to you guys because, unfortunately, most adults and church leaders tell kids that sin is simply something that makes you feel SAD, BAD or GUILTY - and not the truth about how really terrible sin is and that it is a really big bad deal.
Sin is the biggest offense to the greatness and worth of God!
That's why it's a BIG DEAL!
And the consequences of sin show just how BIG of a DEAL it is too. Do you know what the consequences of sin are? Are you ready to know?
Ok! ...Here it goes...The ultimate consequence of sin is....death, to be experienced by sinners in hell.
Hell is a place of Gods everlasting EPIC anger. This anger is also known as God's wrath.
So when we put it all together sin (not trusting God and not doing what He says) brings death, which is experiencing Gods epic anger forever in a place called hell.
Now do you believe sin is super serious?
You need to know this important truth now, in order to see YOUR desperate condition before a Holy God. Because only then, in your desperation, will you recognize how great Gods rescue plan is to you, when I show you the GREAT HOPE of the GOSPEL, and why Jesus is so important to us.
Lets watch an animated version of the 1st three chapters of Genesis and think about what we've just learned.
What? Does someone have a question? Ok! what's your question?
"Why doesn't God, who loves them, just forgive them?"
Because God is righteous, He always values and treasures what is most deserving of those affections: His own greatness and worth.
God is the supreme delight of the entire universe, and expects to be loved and treated as such. Any affection that falls short of loving God's glory most of all is sin. And God is right to be full of anger when He is not enjoyed and treasured above all things.
God is right to punish people with death when He is not treated as the Most Special Person of All. Death means experiencing God's anger forever in a terrible place called hell.
Now put on your Thinking Cap!
Let me ask you a few questions:
•Do you ever experience consequences after you have sinned?
•Do you have a special object that belongs to you, like a teddy bear or toy? How would you feel if your brother, sister, or best friend came into your room and started to mark up, cut or destroy your special toy? Would you be angry? Would you want him/her to be punished? Why?
•Is God more special than any toy you have? Is God angry when He is not treated in ways that show He is the most special person of all? Why is His anger always right?
•God made a very special promise to Adam and Eve -that He would someday solve the sin and death problem (read Genesis 3:15) Was this a good promise?!
Should it make us happy? Why?
Do you know how God kept that promise?
Live Action: Share why sin is a Big Deal with 2 of your close buddies this week.
